Hey beauty addicts!
I thought it would be fun to go over my most recent purchases from Sephora. I am going to split this post into two separate categories. In the first category I will be reviewing the products that were repurchased. These products I have been using for a long while, and I can give you a solid review of these products. The second category will be items I purchased for the first time. I have used these products since purchasing them, but I will only be telling you my first impression of them since they have not been used over a long period of time. This will definitely be a long one! So grab yourself a snack, nice hot cup of tea, and let’s get started!
The first product I picked up was a new bottle of the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. I am obsessed with this primer! It is definitely a more expensive primer costing $54 US. However, my honest opinion is it is worth every penny! The Veil Mineral primer conceals redness, minimizes the appearance of pores, and softens the look of fine lines and wrinkles. I also love to use this primer because it controls my oil throughout the day. Out of all my primers this is the one I would recommend for everyone to use. It makes foundation application smooth, and it will definitely keep you looking flawless!
The next product I had to get a back up of was my Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation. This foundation is easily one of my top favorites. It is another rather expensive product ($40 US), but a little goes a long way with it. This bottle of foundation will honestly last you quite a long time even with regular use because you don’t need to use a lot to get good coverage. It is a long wear, water proof, full coverage, oil free, and matte finish foundation. This is an excellent foundation to give you a good full coverage to hide any imperfections you’re wanting to conceal. Any skin type can use this foundation, but if you have more dry skin I would recommend using a hydrating primer beforehand because it can cling to dry patches. I do highly recommend this product!
I also picked up a full size bottle of the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel ($26 US). I purchased a smaller travel size of this moisturizer previously, and I fell in love with it! this moisturizer is amazing on oily skin. This particular formula is actually created for those who have combination to oily skin. If you have dry skin I would recommend the other version of the moisturizer that is not the gel. That formula is more intense so it will offer more hydration for my dry girls. The gel formula is amazing. It keeps my skin hydrated, but it doesn’t make me greasy. My skin is already oily so some moisturizer can be too much for me. This one is perfect with my oily skin, and it also doesn’t break me out which is great because I am quite sensitive when it comes to moisturizer. Over time it has also helped to improve my skin texture. So if your combination to oily skin looking for a good moisturizer definitely check this one out!
The final product I repurchased was the Sephora brand sheet mask in Rose ($6 US). The Sephora sheet masks are a great quick, easy, and cheap mask. Each one has different beneficial properties. The Rose mask is targeted to brighten the skin, and it is also ultra moisturizing. If my skin starts to become more on the dry side, rare but it happens, then I love to use this mask to get my skin hydrated again. It is important to keep your skin hydrated! Good skin care is the first step to good makeup. If you’re looking for a new mask to try I highly recommend this one!
On this trip to Sephora I really wanted to try some new products I have heard others raving about. I found most of the items I was looking for, and I have used them for about a week now. I can’t give an in-depth review, but I will share my first thoughts.
The first product I actually didn’t hear anyone talking about before I purchased them. As I was walking around the store I saw the Sephora brand Coconut Water Cleansing Wipes ($7.50 US). I love the scent of coconut, and I can always use more makeup removing wipes so I decided to give them a try. I threw these in my purse as soon as I got home so I would have them when I am out traveling. I have not tried them yet so I don’t know much about them, but I am excited to try them out.
Then I caved in and splurged on a product I kept telling myself I was not going to purchase. However, temptation got the best of me so I purchased the Laura Mercier loose translucent setting powder ($38 US). Now, as you can tell this powder is expensive. So far I really do love the powder. It sets my foundation beautifully, and it gives me an airbrushed finish. However, I will say that it is not completely necessary to purchase this powder. It is high quality, and it works great. I do believe there are a few dupes for it from the drugstore, and I will include that in my future dupes post. I don’t regret purchasing this because I will definitely be using it, but there are a lot of alternatives that are far cheaper.
Next I purchased another lipstick because I don’t have enough. I mean a girl can never have too many lipsticks right? Recently, I saw Marlena, owner of Makeup Geek, raving about the new Urban Decay Vice lipstick in the shade Oblivion so of course I had to buy it. What really caught my attention about this lipstick is the fact that it is their mega matte formula, and it is a grey purple taupe shade. That right there has my name written all over it! Since purchasing it I honestly have been wearing it nonstop! It is gorgeous on the lips, highly pigmented, and long-lasting. This shade is a Sephora exclusive so you can only purchase it from a Sephora and it costs $17 US. So far I would recommend it.
I also decided to give the Make Up For Ever Artist Eye shadows a try ($21 US). These are a pricey eye shadow, but the pans are huge! They are literally double the size of a typical pan size. Since the size is so much bigger I think the price is fair, and it will last you for the longest time. I got the shade M-548 which is a matte pink-grey color. The positives of this shadow are it is incredibly pigmented and it blends like a dream. I put this shade in my crease as a transition shade, and it was gorgeous! The only thing I don’t like is that it is a powdery shadow. As soon as you dip your brush in you get a lot of powder kick up. This isn’t necessarily an issue because the shadow still works great. It is just one of those things that either bothers you or it doesn’t. I will still use this shadow, and I definitely want to purchase more in the future.
I debated the entire time I was in the store about whether or not to get this next product. However, in the end I decided to buy it. It is the Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying Makeup Setting Spray ($38 US). It is supposed to set your makeup, mattify the skin, and also keep you hydrated. It claims you can also use it before applying makeup, but I purchased it just to use as a setting spray. So far I am very on the fence about it. It does seem to set my makeup, but at times it also leaves little white dots all over my face. The dots are easy to eliminate by just sweeping a stippling brush over your face, but it still slightly annoys me. I have other setting sprays that work great, and don’t dot my face. I will definitely keep trying it out, but so far I would probably not buy it again.
As much as I love my Urban Decay foundation I wanted to try out a new one. I have wanted to try the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 hour wear Foundation ($42 US) for over a year now. This foundation claims to be a hydrating foundation with a demi-matte finish. Since it claimed to be hydrating I was afraid it would end up being dewy on my oily skin so I held off on purchasing it. On this trip I decided to go ahead and purchase it because curiosity was driving me insane. I am thrilled that I decided to purchase it this time! I have been wearing this every single day since I bought it! It gives the most gorgeous finish to the skin, it really lasts as long as it claims, and it conceals my pores so well. It is a medium to buildable full coverage which is a great alternative to only full. I honestly think this will be a new holy grail for me!
Last but not the least I purchased the Peter Thomas Roth Professional Strength 3% retinal Plus ($82 US). This serum is by far the most expensive purchase I made, but I believe it was worth it. When it comes to skin care I will always splurge on high-end products because they are truly the best quality. I would honestly recommend you to splurge on skin care before you do makeup. Skin care is truly so important. I can’t stress that enough. This serum is a form of Vitamin A that you apply each night to even out skin tone, smooth rough texture, and to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. When you’re in your twenties like I am it is really important to start using anti-aging products. It is never too early to start preventing wrinkles. It is a lot easier to slow the process than it is to reverse it. I swear by Peter Thomas Roth products. It is one of my favorite brands, and I heard a lot of good reviews on this serum. For those two reasons I was willing to pay that high price to try it out. I have only used it a short time so I can’t yet say it actually works. So far it is going good, but I will later update on how it actually works.
Alright guys you have finally made it to the end! If you get this far get yourself an extra snack because you deserve it!
I hope you all enjoy this post and I will be back soon! Have a great night 🙂
