Today I thought it would be fun to share with all of you my first impression on a few recent makeup purchases. These aren’t products new to the market, but they are new to me. Some of the products I have wanted to try for quite some time while others I just recently heard about.
Quick disclaimer, these are my very first impressions, and therefore my opinion can easily change. Whether I love or hate the products I will be using them more to give them a fair chance. These are just my initial thoughts after using the products once.
If you’re interested to hear my thoughts just keep on scrolling!
Mat Velvet + by Makeup Forever
I watched Thataylaa’s latest Foundation Friday, and as you can probably guess this was the foundation she reviewed. When it comes to foundation I always trust Taylor’s opinion because I feel that she does honest and thorough reviews. She gave this foundation a thumbs up so of course I bought it the next day!
I purchased it from Sephora for $41 US! This is definitely a foundation on the pricey side, but that’s to be expected when it’s from Makeup Forever. It claims to be water-resistant, shine controlling, oil free, and high coverage. Definitely everything that I look for in a foundation. I picked up the lightest shade, 15, which was perfect for me even once it oxidized.
When I first applied the foundation I was in love with it! It gave me great coverage, and it blended out very easy. However, throughout the day it did not wear well at all. I got super oily and I started to lose coverage as well. I’m not sure if it was my primer or just a bad skin day, but it did not hold up well.
I want to love it so bad! I will definitely keep trying it out, and I will update you all later!
Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner by Makeup Forever
This item I actually did not purchase, but tested it out anyway. Sephora was giving out this sample size free with any Makeup Forever purchase. I got the matte black which I was excited for since that is what I am most likely to use.
It applied nicely, and it is an intense black. However, not too much longer it completely faded from my water line. This happens with most liners that I use so I kind of expected it to happen. However, since it is waterproof I thought it may work for me.
I don’t see myself reaching for this at all. This product retails for $21 US and it didn’t last long enough to justify that price. The Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof liner is only $10 US, and it lasts all day long! So honestly I would say pick up the Sephora one, and skip out on the Makeup Forever one.
Disappearing Act 4-in-1 Concealer by PÜR Cosmetics
I am currently out of all my concealers except for the Tarte Shape Tape which I don’t really like. I first went to repurchase one of my holy grail concealers, but then I decided to give a new one a shot. I love the PÜR Bare It All foundation so I thought I would try out the matching concealer.
I am on the fence about how this concealer is packaged. This is the first time I have used a pot type concealer rather than a liquid, and I haven’t decided if I love it or hate it.
I am also very on the fence about how the product itself performs. When I saw the name Disappearing Act I assumed that it would be high coverage. However, I feel like I got very light coverage with it. I also think it was slightly too dewy for my skin.
Currently, I’m not impressed, but I don’t hate it either. This one I just need to work with more. If you have tried this out please let me know your thoughts!
Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer by Tarte
For quite some time I have wanted to pick up Tarte’s bronzer in the shade Park Ave Princess because I had heard it is great on pale skin. My first impression of this is that it is definitely pale skin friendly! I absolutely love this shade! It does a great job of warming up my skin without making me look too orange. It is the perfect shade if you have very light skin. Of course the formula is great as well! Tarte really knows what they are doing when it comes to powder products. Their amazonian clay formula is the best of the best in my opinion. I am so glad I picked this up, and I will definitely be using it a lot! Plus, isn’t the packaging gorgeous?
Single Eyeshadows by Anastasia Beverly Hills
I was not at all planning on getting any eyeshadows, but then I noticed that my local Ulta expanded their line of Anastasia products! So of course I had to check it out! I already owned one Anastasia shadow that is in a shimmer finish, but I had not tried any matte shades.
Since my Ulta now carries all of the Anastasia single eyeshadows I had to pick up a couple that caught my eye. I picked up the shades Stone and Buon Fresco. Stone is a light grey almost brown shade, and Buon Fresco is a dusty lavender shade.
These apply and blend like a dream! The color payoff is there for sure, and I will definitely get a lot of use out of these colors. The only down side is that there is a lot of powder kick up when you dip your brush into these shadows. I can look past that since the formula is so spot on! I love these, and I will be purchasing more shades.
Dipbrow Pomade by Anastasia Beverly Hills
I have debated buying the Dipbrow Pomade for a very long time. I decided to try out the Ulta brand pomade first, and I hated that one! So I assumed that I wouldn’t like any other pomade out there either. However, while I was already in the Anastasia section I figured I might as well give this one a shot. I picked up the shade Soft Brown because it looked like the best match. My typical Dark Brown shade that I use in the powder seemed too dark in the pomade formula.
This morning before work I dipped my brush into this pomade, and with a deep breath started applying it to my brows. Instantly I fell in love with it! Seriously, why have I procrastinated so long on trying this out? My brows looked great today, and I typically hate my brows. I am highly impressed with how this formula looks and holds up throughout the day. This may very well be a new holy grail!
Thank you so much for reading my post! I sure hope you enjoyed hearing my first impressions. I will provide full updates later on all these products most likely in a Love it or Leave it post.
